There's no single right routine for everyone. The most useful thing you can do is get to know your own hair a little better — through simple, everyday observation.
Texture
Take a single strand between your fingers. Does it feel fine, medium or coarse? Is your hair straight, wavy, curly or coily? Texture influences how hair responds to products and how much handling it likes.
Density
Density is about how many strands you have rather than how thick each one is. People with higher density often find they need more product and more time to work it through evenly.
Your scalp
Notice how your scalp feels a day or two after washing. This can help you decide how often wash days feel right for you. If your scalp is persistently itchy, flaky or uncomfortable, that's a good reason to speak with a dermatologist.
Lifestyle and environment
- Climate — humid monsoon months and dry winters can change how your hair behaves.
- Water — some people notice a difference when they travel or move home.
- Exercise and commuting — sweat and pollution may influence how often you want to cleanse.
- Styling — frequent heat or tight hairstyles mean your hair is handled more.
